About the Saddleworth area

Accommodation Set in open countryside, the Grains Bar Hotel is a short distance from Denshaw, Delph, Uppermill, Dobcross, Diggle and Greenfield. The Saddleworth villages attract thousands of visitors each year.

Whit weekend is a clear favourite, with the Whit Friday Walks in the morning followed by a massive Band contest in the afternoon. Sometimes up to 100 bands enter the twenty contests held in and around Saddleworth. The next day, the Saddleworth Beer Walk attracts thousands of entrants mostly in fancy dress, who raise more than £50,000 for charity on the day.

The Saddleworth Ruchcart is an August annual event steeped in Pennine history, a great weekend with lots of beer and lots of morris dancing.

And lets not forget: The Saddleworth Folk Festival; The Canal Festival; Beer Festival; Yanks Weekend commemorating the filming of 'Yanks' in Saddleworth, and the Saddleworth Festival of the Arts held every four years.

Manchester city centre is either a ten mile drive away, or you can park your car at Greenfield
Railway station (15 minutes away) and take the half hour train journey to Victoria Station. There are numerous theatres and galleries, shopping and China town, a culinary centre second only to London.

Liverpool, a forty minute drive on the motorway, boasts the Albert Dock, an historic look into the Cit's maritime past with the Tate Modern, the Maritime Museum and the Beatles Museum nearby. Leeds is thirty miles away and Bradford twenty five miles with the National Museum of Photography Film and Television and Imax cinema.
